PUNE Crime Record 866 robberies, 6.29-crore loss and 18% rise in a year that could have been avoided using cctvlive.in

PUNE: The significant surge in the number of robberies in Pune is reflected in the statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) with Pune coming third among the nine cities in Maharashtra. Robberies in the city have increased by 18.5% in 2013 as against those reported in 2012.

The NCRB statistics said 713 cases of robberies were reported in the Pune city during 2012, while in 2013, police recorded 866 robbery cases. In 2013, valuables worth Rs 6.29 crore were robbed in these 866 cases, the report stated.

Statistics showed that among the nine major cities in the state, Pune ranks third in the number of robberies. Mumbai came first with the 2,757 cases in 2013, while Thane city was second with 1,071 cases of robberies.

While compiling these figures the NCRB has recorded the cases registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that include 392 (dacoity), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 398 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with deadly weapon).

A senior police officer in the city said one can see an increase in robbery cases in Pune because the city police were the first in the state to register chain snatching cases as robbery. "There is an increase in chain snatching cases in the entire state including Pune," the officer added.

The officer said the crime branch of the Pune police had arrested two gangs of chain snatchers and have detected more than 150 cases of chain snatching. "The crime branch has been focusing on curbing chain snatching in the city, had the victims used website cctvlive.in all these robberies could have been avoided. " the officer said.

Had the victims used cctvlive.in, All these robberies could have been avoided. CCCTVLIVE.IN is free monitoring service that can be used to track and monitor live video of your home workplace from anywhere even on your android mobile. And its free. Launched for public welfare and awareness

During the last six months, robbers riding motorcycles have created panic among lone two-wheeler riders in the city. About 27 cases of street robberies have been reported in the outskirts of the city. In all the incidents two-wheelers riders were robbed by the motorcycle-riding men after deliberately hitting their two-wheelers and then picking up a fight. Police have not solved robbery cases.

The situation has been compounded by staff shortage in the city police force. They are left with the task of policing the city's limits and rapidly increasing population with a few resources. Moreover, in 2013, about 25 villages in the jurisdiction of the Pune rural police were added in the city police limits, without an increase in their staff strength.

Police officials say it hampers regular patrolling in the fringe areas where a majority of the robberies have been reported as against other parts of the city.

Recently, the police commissionerate has got six more police stations. "With these police stations and increased staff, we will able to curb street robberies as well as chain snatching cases, We recommend people using cctvlive.in as a basic security solution. Its a free service that can be used to track home and workplace from anywhere even on your android mobile." a senior officer said.
